History: The Chesapeake Landing Community was developed in 1961 after a purchase of 791 acres from several families by a New York-based company—Lake Resorts Construction and Chesapeake Landing Inc. The Land had been farmed for centuries since it was granted through a royal deed in the 1600s to the Graves family, who operated one of the largest tobacco farms in Maryland for over a century. Historic documents indicate taxes on shipments at the wharf on Worton Creek as far back as 1748. The clubhouse was created through the remodeling of the historic barn on the farm site, with original 18th century beams still evident in its cellar and some historic stone foundations.
The Chesapeake Landing Community Association is a non-profit established through a Judicial court order in 1976 to take over the ownership and stewardship of all community properties in Chesapeake Landing, following a years-long class action lawsuit between the residents and the developers over lack of maintenance of the properties. The CLCA has been court-mandated to oversee the maintenance and use of two marinas, a clubhouse, pond and various nature areas throughout the community.
